What’s equivalent to more than 275 trees in one area alone? The CityTree.
Revealed infront of the Hopewell Centre in Wan Chai just last month, CityTree is Hong Kong’s first-ever air-purifying tree installation. Created by German-based start-up, Green City Solutions, the installation of the tree was a result of its participation in the Infiniti Accelerator 1.0 programme just last year, and has since then gone on to win multiple global awards.
The tree, equivalent to having more than 275 urban trees, is a four-metre-high structure that cleans the air around a 50-metre radius with the combination of special moss cultures and vascular plants, much like a vertical garden. The self-sufficient installation and plant filter will remove harmful fine dust (up to 8,913kg per year), nitrogen dioxide and ozone from the air. Aside from the florae, there is more than meets the eye, as the CityTree is also equipped with cutting edge technology including Wi-Fi, iBeacon and digital screens. We’re also liking the biodiversity aspect, as the city looks much better green. Hong Kong is proud to be the first city in the world to provide soil for the groundbreaking and innovative CityTree!
